How to play Four in a Row with a friend by link
- Create a room. Choose Invite a friend to open your private board.
- Copy the invitation. Use Share invitation or Play with a friend in the game, then send the link to your friend.
- Join from another browser. The creator keeps Gold; the first guest takes Coral. Opening your own link in the same browser restores your seat.
- Stay connected and take turns. Gold starts. Choose a column and watch the disc settle.
There is no random matchmaking. For one shared screen, open Four in a Row 2 Player. For solo practice, try Vs Computer. The online guide compares all modes.
Four in a Row rules: let gravity do its part
The board has seven columns and six rows, giving you 42 spaces. Gold moves first, then Coral, alternating one disc at a time.
- Choose a column. A disc falls into the lowest empty space. You cannot choose its row, move a disc afterward or remove a disc from the bottom.
- Leave full columns alone. Each holds six discs. Once full, it cannot receive another.
- Make a line of four. Four or more adjacent discs of your color in a straight horizontal, vertical or diagonal line win immediately. Gaps and bends do not count.
- Draw when the board fills. If all 42 spaces are occupied and neither color has a winning line, the round ends in a draw.
The winning discs light up and the board stops accepting moves. The small dot marks the most recent disc during an unfinished game.
Click or tap anywhere in a column. On a keyboard, Tab to a column, use the left or right arrows to choose another, then press Enter or Space. A pointer preview marks the space where your next disc will land.
Look at the move after your move
Check both colors for three discs with a playable fourth space. A diagonal threat can be easy to overlook. Remember that an empty winning space may still need support underneath it.
Central columns participate in more possible lines. Use them to build several directions at once, but always check for an immediate threat before pursuing your own plan. A disc that supports your line may also support your friend’s winning reply.
Try to create two winning drops at the same time. Your opponent gets only one move, so two separate threats can decide the round.
Return to your seat or ask for another round
The server checks the turn, column and board revision, then saves a legal move before confirming it to both players. If a connection drops, the game reconnects and restores the confirmed position. Both players need to be connected to continue.
Use the same browser and invitation link to recover your seat. Opening that seat in another tab replaces its old connection. Clearing site data removes your seat credential. Rooms expire after seven days of inactivity.
Once your friend has joined, New round requires both players to agree. A move cancels an outstanding request. While the second seat is still empty, the creator can reset the board alone. Gold starts every new round and colors stay the same.
Before the first disc drops
Can I choose the friend I play?
Yes. Create a private room and send its invitation to that person. The first guest to open it takes the second seat.
Who gets the first move?
The room creator is Gold and starts. The guest is Coral. The same colors and starting player are kept for a rematch.
Can my friend use a different device?
Yes. Each person can use a phone, tablet or computer. Keep both browsers connected during the game.
Do diagonals count?
Yes. An uninterrupted straight line of at least four of your discs wins horizontally, vertically or along either diagonal direction.
What if we fill the whole board?
If neither color has a winning line after all 42 spaces are occupied, the round is a draw.
Can one player reset the online game?
After a guest has joined, both players must agree to a new round. Until then, the creator can reset the waiting board alone.
