Bring a friend aboard
- Create a private room. Press Invite a friend. Your browser keeps the creator’s seat.
- Copy the invitation. Send the room link to your friend. The first guest opening it on another browser takes the second seat.
- Arrange your fleets privately. Each player selects a formation and presses Ready. You can prepare while waiting for your friend.
- Start searching. When both fleets are locked and both players are connected, the creator takes the first shot.
Opening your own invitation in the same browser restores your existing seat. There is no random matchmaking. For one screen, use Battleship 2 Player; for a solo game, choose Vs Computer. See all modes on the online overview.
Five ships on a 10 × 10 grid
Each fleet contains a Carrier (5 squares), Battleship (4), Cruiser (3), Submarine (3) and Destroyer (2): seventeen occupied squares in total. Rows are A–J and columns are 1–10.
- Place straight ships. A ship is horizontal or vertical, never diagonal or bent. Keep it within the grid. Ships may touch but cannot overlap.
- Lock your formation. Ready confirms all five ships. They cannot move during the battle.
- Take one shot per turn. Choose an unexplored square in Target waters. A hit is a coral cross; a miss is a pale dot. Every shot ends the turn, including a hit.
- Sink the whole fleet. Hitting every square of a ship reveals that sunk ship. The first captain to sink all five wins immediately.
The server checks shots and turns. It sends each player their own fleet and public results; unhit enemy ship positions and the identity of partially hit ships remain hidden.
Give your fleet a formation
Start with an empty Your fleet grid. Tap a starting square to place the selected ship; the next ship is selected automatically. Choose any ship from the top menu, or tap one already on the grid. Drag it to move, or tap an empty starting square. The orientation button (or R) turns it. Invalid placements leave the fleet unchanged. Auto-place arranges all five ships; Clear fleet starts over. Ready becomes available when all five ships are placed.
Target and Your fleet stay visible together, beside each other on a wide screen or stacked on a phone. Your own grid shows incoming shots; Target shows the shots you have fired. The highlighted player card indicates the active captain. Pinch to enlarge the board when you need a closer view. With a keyboard, Tab to the board, use arrow keys and press Enter or Space.
On the same device, the board disappears between players. Pass the hidden screen and let the next person press I’m ready. Both players must look away while the other is arranging or viewing a fleet.
A place for your next round
Confirmed online placements and shots save on the server. Return using the same browser and invitation to recover your seat. If a connection drops, the client reconnects and receives the current private view. Firing pauses until both players are connected again.
Once the guest has joined, New round needs agreement from both players. A new placement or shot cancels an outstanding request. Local and computer battles save separately in this browser when storage is available. There is no match clock, rating or accumulated score.
Battleship questions
Can I place ships while waiting for my friend?
Yes. You can arrange your fleet and press Ready before the other player joins. Firing begins only when both fleets are ready.
Does a hit give me another shot?
No. This game alternates after every shot, including hits and sinkings.
Can ships touch each other?
Yes. Touching is allowed. Ships cannot overlap or extend beyond the board.
Can my friend see my unsunk ships?
The online game sends only your friend’s own fleet, shot results and completely sunk enemy ships. Your remaining formation stays private.
Can one person restart the battle?
Once both seats are occupied, both players must request a new round before the board resets.
