Choose how to play

Play Battleship Online opens the shared-device game. The menu offers three choices:

• Same device: pass one phone or computer between two people.
• Play with a friend: create a private room and send the invitation yourself.
• Vs computer: choose Easy, Medium or Hard and practise alone.

There is no random matchmaking, public lobby or ranked queue.

Give every ship a hiding place

Start with an empty Your fleet grid. Tap to place the selected ship; the next ship is selected automatically. Choose a ship in the top menu or tap it on the grid, then drag to move or use the orientation button to rotate. Auto-place arranges all five ships; Clear fleet starts over. Target and Your fleet remain visible together.

Fleet lengths are 5, 4, 3, 3 and 2. All ships are straight. They may touch, but cannot overlap. Once Ready is pressed, that fleet stays fixed until a new round.

Turn each result into a clue

Tap an unexplored square on Target waters. Coral crosses are hits; pale dots are misses. A gold outline marks the most recent shot on the displayed grid. A sunk ship reveals its whole shape.

Players alternate after every shot. Look around a fresh hit, then try to identify its direction. A short run of hits could belong to either three-square ship, so stay curious until the game confirms the sinking. The rules guide explains the full round.

Return to your battle

Local and computer rounds save separately in browser storage when available. Private rooms save confirmed fleets and shots on the server. Keep your original browser and room link to reclaim your seat after a reload.

Online firing pauses while the other player is disconnected. Once both players have joined, both must request a new round before either fleet is cleared. Internet access is required to play in a room.
