Open the board and choose your mode

The main button opens a local board in your browser. Use the game’s top menu to choose:

  • Same device: two people take turns on one screen.
  • Play with a friend: create a private room and share its invitation.
  • Vs computer: choose a difficulty and play Sente against an automatic opponent.

There is no account form or public opponent search. A room is for you and the first friend who joins its link.

Why the endgame stays lively

In Shogi, captured material stays useful. A rook taken early can return later on an open file. A single pawn in hand may block an attack or force a king to move. Before every turn, study the board and both hand panels.

The last three ranks are the promotion zone. Entering, leaving or moving within that zone can offer promotion. Most promoted minor pieces move like a gold; the rook and bishop gain extra one-square movements.

A board that explains the next step

Select a piece to show legal destinations. Select a piece in hand to reveal legal drop squares. The board rejects moves that leave your king in check. The How to play menu includes the rules, and Moves shows a record that can be copied.

Local and computer games save separately in browser storage. Private rooms save confirmed actions on the server; reconnect using the same browser and invitation to recover your seat. Clearing browser storage removes local games and online seat credentials.

Find the right kind of practice

Choose two-player Shogi when you are together, or Shogi with a friend for separate devices. Both online players must remain connected to submit moves.

Shogi against the computer is available without a room. Start on Easy while learning the pieces, then try deeper searches. These are casual games without clocks, ratings or tournament adjudication.
