Play the exposed card, reveal the next one
Use 32 cards, seven through ace. Each player has eight exposed cards, each covering a hidden card. Only exposed cards can be played; neither player can inspect the covered cards.
The non-dealer bids first. In the first bidding round accept the suit of the dealer’s last exposed card or pass. In the second choose another suit or pass. Four passes cause a redeal with the other dealer. The proposed card stays with the dealer.
The non-dealer leads. Follow the led suit whenever possible. If trump is led, play a higher trump if possible. When unable to follow suit, you must trump if you can; otherwise discard any exposed card.
Trump order is J, 9, A, 10, K, Q, 8, 7. Other suits rank A, 10, K, Q, J, 9, 8, 7. Trump J is worth 20 and trump 9 is worth 14; A is 11, 10 is 10, K is 4, Q is 3 and a non-trump J is 2. Other cards score zero.
The higher card of the led suit wins unless trumped. The winner collects the two cards, uncovers both newly exposed reserves and leads next. The final trick adds ten points, making 162 in total.
The taker needs at least 82 points. A failed contract, including 81–81, awards 162 to the defender. Taking all sixteen tricks scores 252. No declarations or belote-rebelote bonuses are counted. Every deal is a separate game.
Read the table before committing
Watch both exposed rows before choosing trump. Save strong trumps for valuable tricks; playing a top card also reveals a new option after collection.
Return to the same deal
Local and computer deals save separately. Changing difficulty keeps the deal. Reopen the invitation in the same browser to recover your online seat. Both players must be connected to act and agree to a new deal. Clearing browser data removes saves and seat credentials.
Questions about two-player Belote
Is this four-player team Belote?
This is Belote Découverte for two players. Each controls eight exposed stacks. There are no teams or four-player tables.
When do the hidden cards turn over?
After the trick winner collects both played cards. Until then, the newly uncovered cards remain hidden from both players.
Does the computer know the reserves?
No. Every level receives only the public exposed cards, played tricks and scores. Easy chooses randomly; Medium weighs safe tricks; Hard considers the opponent’s exposed replies.
What happens at 81–81?
The taker fails the contract and the defender is awarded 162. There is no carry-over score.
